Zn2AlSi2O5(OH)4.2H2O?
Monoclinic
Zinalsite was described from Sterling Hill by Chukrov (1956). It was presumably in the clays resulting from weathering of the deposit and likely comprised part of the mixture formerly called vaneuxemite. Very little description of Sterling Hill material is given by Chukrov; the studied material is stated to be biaxial, negative, with a = 1.515, b = 1.521, and g = 1.526. Heating curves for local material were compared with those of Russian material. Zinalsite has not been reported from Franklin and has not been seen by this writer.
Zinalsite is named for its chemical composition, zin for zinc, al for aluminum, and si for silicon.
