This Website contains a copy of The Minerals of Franklin and Sterling Hill, Sussex County, New Jersey, re-formatted for the Web.
Written by Charles Palache, and published by the US Geological Survey in 1935 as USGS Professional Paper #180, it carefully describes what was then known of the remarkable minerals from the Franklin-Sterling Zn-Mn-Fe deposits.
Though some of the science is out of date (see Dunn, 1995, for a comprehensive modern reference), the work remains a classic locality study in mineralogy, superbly done.
This site is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 6 or newer. Note that early versions of Netscape (~4.0) incorrectly render this site's formatting, and will not display 'overbar' characters used on crystal forms.
